Hack Your Closet is a popular clothing subscription company from Sweden that aims to help customers play their part in fighting against climate change, in style. At the same time, they’ve got their stats backing up their claims. The company’s co-founder Lisa Gautier states that they will keep growing and eventually open up franchises all over Europe.
Today, global climate change is one of the most important issues that we are facing. Large industries are mostly responsible for increasing greenhouse gas emissions that make this issue even more challenging and dangerous. The clothing industry is one among these large industries that play a huge part in speeding up this catastrophic process.
Production of clothing has serious costs for the environment. Responsible for more greenhouse emissions than the combination of all of the international flights in the world and maritime shipping, the clothing industry is further facilitating the climate change problem at a great rate. Since we can’t do without it, we have to find ways to make the clothing industry more sustainable and less damaging to the environment.
The innovative and bold Swedish startup company Hack Your Closet is trying to solve this issue without sacrificing fashion or style. The company is helping its customers use clothing more efficiently by allowing them to subscribe to clothing instead of buying. This way, customers get to reflect their style without damaging the environment to such large degrees.
170 pieces of clothing with Hack Your Closet has the same emissions as 3 bought conventionally
Hack Your Closet is not only a company that has daring goals but also have statistics to back up their claims. According to Lisa Gautier, one of the co-founders of the company, their custo
mers tend to completely stop buying new clothes or at least buy less after subscribing to their services.
The figures that have been reviewed by the consulting company Miljögiraff state that three pieces of clothing cause around 27 kg. (59.5 lbs.) of carbon emissions into the world’s atmosphere. In comparison, the same use causes less than 1 kg. (2.2 lbs.) of carbon emissions with Hack Your Closet.
Lisa Gautier also goes on to state that the carbon emissions that are caused by about 170 pieces of clothing that customers use with their services are equal to the emissions from only 3 pieces of clothing bought in a conventional manner.
Growing every day and helping people with developing a more sustainable lifestyle…
As of now, the company has two places to carry out its operations, which they refer to as “dark closets”. One of these dark closets is located close to Stockholm, Sweden while the other one is located in Strasbourg, France.
With about 3000 regular customers and around 10 million Swedish kronor, they are now planning to open up one dark closet every year in Europe in order to expand and serve more customers.
