Collision unveils 28 Canadian startups shortlisted for pitch competition

Collision has revealed the 28 Canadian startups that are shortlisted for its PITCH competition.

PITCH is open to any early-stage startups exhibiting at Collision that have received less than $5 million in funding to date and have not had a discernible change in their business models in the last three years.

Toronto-based relationship app Couply won Collision’s PITCH competition last year, joining other past winners such as AirHelp, Loliware, and Lifeina.

The competition’s panel of judges include the likes of Rupa Athreya, chief accelerator investments officer at Techstars; David Dufresne, investor and advisor at Pref; Faisal Kazi, president and CEO of Siemens Canada; and Veetahl Eilat-Raichel, co-founder and CEO of Sorbet.

Set to run from June 20 to 23 at the Enercare Centre, Web Summit said it expects Collision to be the largest international gathering in Toronto in more than two years. Tickets for the tech conference are currently sold out with 35,000 attendees expected to attend.

Collision was originally set to be held in Toronto for three years beginning in 2019. The event was hosted online for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is set to continue to take place in Toronto in 2023.

Over 900 speakers, 1,500 startups, 1,200 journalists, 850 investors, and 100 unicorn companies from more than 140 countries are expected to attend Collision this year.

Since its last in-person event in Toronto, Web Summit claims that Collission’s number of attendees has grown by 40 percent. To accommodate for this growth, the event’s total floor space was increased by 54 percent. Collision will be using the entire Beanfield Centre building, with outdoor space for food trucks, seating, and circulation.

The number of participating startups has also inflated by 36 percent, outnumbering Web Summit 2021 in Lisbon that took place in November.
